Kinderstube Head Teacher
Position Title: Head Teacher
Reports to: Minneapolis Kinderstube Director
Position Classification: 34-38 hours per week
Position Location: Kinderstube German Immersion Preschool, Minneapolis location (Mayflower Church)
Compensation and Benefits: $25-30/hour commensurate with experience.The GAI/ Kinderstube offers employer sponsored health and dental insurance, 11 paid holidays, paid time off (PTO) and sick leave, annual IRA bonus, and free class tuition, paid ongoing staff development. Kinderstube is closed for paid winter break in December and paid spring break in April.
Position Overview
Kinderstube is in an exciting phase of visioning and growth. Help us take our program to the next level with this new position! With preschool being the building block and foundation of a child’s future, we’re seeking someone committed to Early Childhood Education. This role is for an experienced teacher who wishes to be a leader and mentor for other staff members and brings a positive attitude and joyful spirit to the program.
Work Environment & Culture
Our preschool program provides high quality, early childhood education with a focus on social-emotional development and language acquisition for young children. We are a small program which focuses on the best interests of children and teachers. We pride ourselves on having a student to teacher ratio of 8:1 and on offering staff paid training and prep time. The Head Teacher position allows for professional development and the strong sense of contributing to the growth and advancement of a leading cultural institute. Areas of current professional development include positive behavior guidance, updated methods of teaching in an early childhood immersion environment, and inclusion and belonging. Duties and Responsibilities
Ensure that all licensing-required health and safety measures are in place at all times
Mentor teachers through leading by example and supporting our Kinderstube mission of teaching German language and culture, teaching social emotional skills and supporting, nurturing and scaffolding children’s ideas
Attend staff meetings and trainings and some Kinderstube/GAI activities outside of work hours
Help organize fun team-building activities
Commitment to our program and the best interest of the children and families we serve.
Serve as a bridge between staff and leadership, and staff and families
Offer support to other teachers in their communications with families
Qualifications
Must be Early Childhood Teacher qualified per MN DHS licensing standards.
This can be achieved through several combinations of education and experience; K-12 licensed teachers with at least one year experience working with children ages 12 and under qualify
Minimum of 2 years experience working in a licensed child care program or school (Kindergarten or early elementary).
Maintain highest personal discretion of confidential data and documents and student information.
Communicate and build positive relationships with families of varying communication styles and backgrounds.
Intercultural Competence and Commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEA):Ability to work with individuals of varied styles, perspectives, gender expression, race, sexualorientation, religion, ability, age, class and immigrant status.
Possess excellent curiosity, creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
● The ability to work collaboratively with other teachers
Highly desired qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years experience working in a licensed child care program or school (Kindergarten or early elementary).
Near native or native fluency in the German language
Experience teaching in German
