MnSACA Announces the Implementation of a National Partnership for After School Science Project!

National Partnership for After School Science — a training and professional development project to increase the capacity of afterschool centers to offer extended, hands-on science projects for elementary aged children.

MnSACA was selected to take part in this 8 state grant and we are looking for a total of 50 sites to participate in this project!

Participants will receive the following:

  • Ability to send one representative to a three day training at the Science Museum of Minnesota to become the trainer for your program. Training will take place on January 13, 14, and 15, 2010, at the Science Museum of Minnesota. (This will be an option for programs with multi-site participation.) If you are a “single site program or CBO” you will be placed in a cohort and assigned a trainer.
  • Each site will receive 18 pre-assembled science kits ($1,800 value) to implement the science activities with your cohort of students. Each kit provides approximately 5-6 hours of programming for 15 children in groups of 3.
  • Each site will receive two visits from our MnSACA/Science Museum of Minnesota Quality Advisor to ensure proper implementation of the NPASS OST Science Curriculum.
  • Each participating site will have access to technical assistance via phone with our Quality Advisor to answer questions about the process.
  • Each participating site will commit to delivering NPASS Curriculum 2x/month for an hour a time with the same cohort of 15-20 students.

Cost per site is $800 total for participation in the program. This project lasts from January 2010 to August 2012. This fee can be paid all at once or $400 in January of 2010 and $400 in January of 2011.

Contact Brian Siverson-Hall at 612.709.7157 for more details or if interested in participating. This project is currently limited to 50 sites!
